Numerical Analysis

Numerical Analysis plays an important part in all areas of modern Applied Mathematics and opportunities for the design, implementation and analysis of computational techniques of mathematical models of physical processes exist within all the main areas of research.

The main pre-occupation in these areas concerns the solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. In particular, there is considerable computational work currently being undertaken in the research groups:

Waves, Vortices and Turbulence under the direction of Prof David Dritschel and

Solar MHD under the direction of Prof Alan Hood.

There are also opportunities in related areas, such as Computational Techniques in Heat Transfer and aspects of Approximation Theory.
