Statistics Research

In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise the Statistics Division received a grade of 5, emphasising the international importance of the research undertaken at St. Andrews.

The statistics division has research interests in 3 main areas:

Research Unit for Wildlife Population Assessment

Research and contract work in statistical and theoretical ecology.

Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling

Statistical Inference

Directional statistics, computer intensive methods, goodness of fit, differential geometry.

Topics of research interest include: differential geometry of parametric inference (e.g. extending large sample methods to deal with samples of moderate size) ; goodness of fit; computer intensive statistical inference and inference in directional statistics (for which observations typically lie on a circle or sphere).
