University of Aberdeen 1954-58 (M.A. (1958) with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Natural Philosophy; Simpson Prize and Rennet Gold Medal in Mathematics; Lyon Prize for the most distinguished graduate in Arts).

University of Oxford (Balliol College) 1959-61 (D.Phil (1961) for a Thesis entitled Some problems in the theory of semigroups).

University of Aberdeen:  D.Sc. (1970) for a Thesis entitled Contributions to the algebraic theory of semigroups.
